Whether you and I think about it this way or not, certain messages are being preached to us all day long. These messages can often be edifying and encouraging, but they can also be harmful lies.

Kids are told all kinds of things when they are at school. Not only are they being academically poured into by their teachers, but their peers preach certain messages to them too. Sometimes they are edified and encouraged, and sometimes they are torn down by very hurtful and negative comments.

Your boss preaches a message to you every day you go to work. Sometimes they lift you up with great praise of your diligent work, and sometimes they cut you down with harsh criticism and correction.

Billboards and advertisements preach messages to you as you drive around town. Sometimes they give helpful thoughts about businesses to use, and sometimes they can breed insecurity in use by conveying to us how our lives are incomplete without their product.

Everywhere we go we are taking in messages that have the power to drastically affect the way we think about ourselves. We have endless opportunities to place our worth and value in things that are not centered in Christ.

So, my question is, when the day is over what do you come home to?

Do you come home to a loving Father in God who breathes life into you, by telling you how much He loves you, how you are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image, and how Jesus is everything you could ever need?

Or do you come home to the lies you have picked up from the day? Do you come home to dwelling on your failures, the things you don’t have you wish you did, the hurtful things people said to you?

We can’t keep lies and hurtful things from happening to us. But we can run into the arms of a loving Father who is waiting to speak truth to us. And that truth is:

“Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:39

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” –1 Peter 1:3

So, what lies did you bring home with you today that you need to leave at the door? What claims are you letting affect your identity that you need to leave at the door?

May we let Jesus have the final say on who we are, and come home to a place of rest.
